Welcome to Greater CPR

Greater Florida CPR was born out of something personal. My father passed away from a heart attack, and in the years since, I have spent more than two decades working in and with communities, asking a question that never quite let go of me: who gets to be ready when seconds matter, and who gets left out?

CPR is one of the few skills where an ordinary person, in an ordinary moment, can change whether someone lives. But access to good training is uneven. Classes get scheduled when working people cannot attend. Certifications lapse and no one notices until it is too late. The people most likely to witness an emergency are often the least likely to have been trained for one. Greater Florida CPR exists to close that gap, and this blog is where we think out loud about how.

We call it Greater CPR: the beat on training, readiness and community response. Three words, three lanes.

Training is the practical stuff. What certification you actually need, the difference between BLS and Heartsaver, when your card expires and how renewal really works, what to expect in a class, and how to choose a course that fits your job rather than the other way around.

Readiness is the bigger picture. Being certified once is not the same as being ready. We will write about keeping skills fresh, building a culture of preparedness at work and at home, and the small decisions that let someone act with confidence instead of freezing.

Community response is the why behind all of it. Stories, local efforts, and the access questions that decide whether a neighborhood is prepared or exposed. This is where the equity mission lives most openly.

A quick word on who we are, so the rest of this makes sense. Greater Florida CPR is an AHA Authorized Provider serving Central Florida, with locations in Longwood and Winter Springs in Seminole County. We teach BLS for healthcare providers, BLS Skills Checks, and Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED, and our certifications require an in-person, hands-on skills assessment, because that is what real competence demands. We also run evening and late-night classes, which matters more than it sounds. It means a nurse coming off shift, a daycare worker, or a parent juggling a full day does not have to choose between getting certified and getting through the week.

You will see a range of topics here. Some will be highly practical, like how Florida childcare centers can stay on top of first aid and CPR coverage. Others will be broader, like why renewal timing trips so many people up, or what it takes to make a whole workplace ready rather than one trained person on paper. The thread running through all of it is the same one that started the business: readiness should not be a privilege. Knowledge isn't power unless it's applied, and CPR may be the clearest proof of that I know. The skill only counts in the seconds you actually use it.
